The Lighthouse Mission and Good News Center

Update from Chris Watson

hill01The Lighthouse Mission in Greeley and the Good News Center in Longmont will continue to minister to the needs of the poor in those communities.  Each of these organizations has their own board of directors that will give direction to the ministry.  I have spent the last couple of months putting procedures in place that will ensure that the goals of sharing the love of Christ and meeting the needs of those who are in desperate situations continues to be done for the glory of the Lord.  I feel that I have done my part, and God has certainly done his.  He has raised up a team of leaders in both areas of individuals who have a passionate concern for those in poverty and the skills, talents, and gifts to minister to these.

In Longmont, Charley Walck has agreed to give direction to the Good News Center.  Charley is an electrician who is semi-retired and has the time to oversee this ministry.  He has served on the board of directors for three years and even before this he was a valuable advisor in issues related to building and maintenance.  Along with Charley, God has raised up Lenore Klughore and Maria Ledesma to form a capable team of distributing food to 400 families a week.  They give direction to 20 volunteers who give of their time to make sure individuals in Longmont are taken care of with the Love of Christ.  Those who come include the homeless, single parents, senior adults, those unemployed, and others dealing with other tragedies.

hill03Charlie and Sue Pantier are the new directors for the Lighthouse Mission in Greeley.  They are members of Pierce Baptist Church where they lead worship and children's ministry.  Charlie has volunteered at the Lighthouse Mission for a year and a half doing everything from making food boxes, to picking up donations, to fixing water leaks.  When he heard that there as a need for leadership with the ministry he prayed about the situation and felt God was leading him to do something.  When he spoke to his wife about what God was stirring up within his heart, she responded by saying that God had been telling her that she need to be involved with something more in ministry.  The couple approached the advisory board about this and through much prayer and examination everyone agreed they would be excellent directors for the ministry.  In addition to food and clothing distribution, Charlie and Sue will be continuing the after school program for children.

God is amazing.  He is always at work.  He is continually calling people to use their gifts, talents, interests, and passions for his glory.  The Good News Center and Lighthouse Mission has each had a spiritual impact on the communities they serve and with these new leaders they will continue making progress toward reaching the poor and disenfranchised for Christ.  If you would like to contact these ministries to see how you could pray for or support them here is the contact information.
