Church Votes to Expand Facility
The PowerPoint presentation from the Town Hall Meeting on February 28 is available as a PDF file.
The history of Vista Grande Baptist Church is a one of God blessing His people as we have stepped out in faith and sought His will for the church and its ministry.
Since May 2009, the Phase 3 Study Update Committee has prayed, studied, and met with staff, church leaders, the VGBC Property Development Committee and RTA architects to determine how the church could finish the master plan for the property resulting in the final permanent sanctuary. The committee reviewed membership and financial trends and determined that the church was not able to proceed with the final build at this time. The committee also determined that a “bridge” solution for worship attendance would be necessary in order to eventually complete the master plan.
Several non-construction options, as well as four construction options for the current sanctuary, were reviewed. Beginning with prayer and continuing with prayer throughout the process, considering the “DNA” of our church, our heritage, current finances and membership, the committee made its final report at a town hall presentation on February 28. We requested that the church body spend two weeks in prayer, seeking God’s will regarding expansion of the current sanctuary.
With completion of the “bridge” expansion, the church will be able to move to two Sunday morning worship services and two Sunday School hours. The restructure of Sunday morning will allow for additional capacity in attendance and ministry growth, as well as future completion of the master plan as the Lord leads.
On March 14, the church voted to approve the sanctuary renovation and wing additions in 2010 as recommended and authorized the trustees to enter into a mortgage of no more than $1,089,900 for this project which includes design, construction, furniture, fixtures and equipment, as well as contingency. It is estimated that construction will be completed in the fourth quarter of 2010 and that the additional mortgage will not begin until the last few months of 2010.
Members are encouraged to give to the Freedom On Powers fund in 2010 to reduce the mortgage debt as well as pray that the bid for the construction will be less than the estimate of $987,668. Gifts over and above tithing and lower construction costs will reduce what is required on a long term basis to service the debt. Please pray how you and your household should participate in supporting this faith walk by our fellowship.
This is another milestone for Vista Grande Baptist Church. How exciting to anticipate how the Lord is going to use our fellowship in serving Him in ministry as we expand our ability to reach others in Colorado Springs and around the world.
