This class is characterized by great Christian wisdom and compassion; this is the Great Depression and WW II generation; they know – and live - what the scripture teaches about persevering in the faith to endure life’s challenges; they know what sacrifice, thrift, respect, reverence, integrity, patriotism, dignity, good humor, thankfulness, and modest living are all about. They know how to minister from the heart, and are faithful to do so even within the limitations many members may have due to health or transportation. They have decades of Bible study behind them, and are more often the teacher rather than the student. They have great capacity to mentor younger folks.

Social events usually number 2 per year, always scheduled for daylight hours in easily accessible venues. Usually, this means a quiet yet festive Christmas dinner on a Saturday in the VGBC fellowship hall, and maybe a lunch or breakfast at a private home. For those who are mobile, there is a monthly luncheon (3rd Thursday) at a local restaurant.
Ministering to class member needs is accomplished via very active telephone net among members, who constantly track health and absences very closely. Hospital stays are supported with flowers from the class fund.
