Gospel
In this sermon we learn there is both an offensive and defensive aspect to the gospel and to gospel ministry. We are called to advance the gospel using the pattern of sound words we have been given. We are also called to defend the gospel, which means being willing to state explicitly what the gospel is and what the gospel is not. We discover that advancing and defending the gospel begins in our own hearts and homes before we can faithfully do this work in our community and world.

    Shame
The main theme of this passage is shame. Paul tells Timothy that he is not ashamed and he calls on Timothy to join him in fighting against shame. We learn why we experience shame and we discover how to not be ashamed of Jesus. We also learn several important lessons for developing a biblical perspective on shame.

    Relationships
2 Timothy is a letter between two people who have a close friendship. As we begin this letter, we learn some important lessons about relationships. Our normal perspective is challenged and corrected by this biblical view. Healthy relationships are grounded in the gospel and they are purposeful in extending the gospel. They are unselfish and authentic. We also discover why Jesus has friended us and loved us in a way that no one else can.

    Making Disciples who Impact
We begin by looking at the big picture of God’s desire to be known by all peoples. God has blessed us so we will bless others so He will be known and praised. We learn that this has been God’s desire and plan from the beginning. We also learn the ways Vista Grande is involved in making an impact for Christ globally and locally.

    Making Disciples who Serve
We look at the parable of the talents and learn several important lessons about serving. For example, everything we have is a loan from God including our time, energy, money, and resources. We discover that as stewards we will give an account to God, so we are encouraged to use what God has given us to serve Him and His church.
