Making Disciples who Worship
In this series, we return to our church’s mission statement: "making disciples who worship, connect, serve, and impact." "Making disciples" is the main command Jesus gave the church in the great commission (Matthew 28:19). God’s people are expected to grow as disciples and the church is instrumental in that growth. Our hope and goal is that everyone at Vista Grande will grow as disciples by getting involved in these four arenas. Worship is the corporate gathering when we assemble weekly as a church. Connecting is when we gather in smaller groups and fellowship and encourage each other around God’s Word. Serving is when we give our time, energy, and resources to benefit God’s people at VGBC. Impact is when we leave the campus in order to represent Christ, show acts of mercy, share the Gospel, and engage in missions. Our aim is to see people come to Christ so they begin growing as disciples. Each week we look at a different aspect of our mission statement.

    Knowing Jesus and the Spirit
In John 16, Jesus tells His disciples they will die after His departure, but He also encourages them that their sorrow will turn to joy. We discover why it is to our advantage that Jesus leaves and sends the Holy Spirit. Some Christians seem to ignore the Holy Spirit. Some Christians emphasize the Holy Spirit in a way that is disconnected from the Bible and from the ministry of Jesus. We learn how to think about the Holy Spirit and why we should be encouraged by His ministry among us.

    Election and Perseverance
In this sermon we talk about two more aspects of our salvation: election and perseverance. We often ignore this important teaching because it can create debate and division. However, the Bible clearly speaks about these subjects in order to encourage us and help us think correctly about our salvation. We learn what we believe and why it matters.

    Salvation
In this sermon, we learn what we believe about salvation. We discover salvation has several components including the Gospel call, regeneration, conversion, justification, sanctification, and glorification. As we gain an appreciation for the many aspects of our salvation and all God has done for us in Christ, we pray with the psalmist that the Lord will restore to us the joy of our salvation.

    God
In this sermon, we discover what we believe about God. We believe God is one and He is the Creator. We look at the account of creation in Genesis 1 and learn why this is significant for us. We also believe God is the Redeemer. Even though God is all-powerful and independent of His creation, yet He chooses to engage us and make Himself knowable to us even when we have rebelled against Him. We learn how we should respond to our Creator-Redeemer.

    The Scriptures
In this sermon, we learn what we believe about the Bible. We begin the sermon series with God’s Word, because this book is foundational to everything we believe. We learn that all the words of the Bible are God’s words. Consequently, the Scriptures are authoritative, true, necessary, sufficient, and clear.

    Knowing Jesus as Restorer

In John 21, Jesus addresses Peter’s denial and He restores Peter. We learn that we are all in need of restoration and God delights in restoring us to use us. We also learn this restoration is often difficult and even painful. However, we are encouraged because God’s restoration is worth it!
