Walking Worthy

Walking Worthy
Sermon Series by Dr. Chris Moore

In this sermon series we go verse by verse through the book of Ephesians.  This letter is made up of two halves (chapters 1-3 and 4-6).  The first three chapters are primarily about all God has done for us in Christ.  The second half of the book is mainly about how we should live in light of what God has done for us.    The key verse is Ephesians 4:1 which brings together these two halves.  This key verse tells us we should walk worthy of our calling in Christ.  In this series we learn what it looks like practically to walk worthy and we learn why we should be motivated to walk worthy.

    An Example of Walking Worthy
    Ephesians 3:1-13
We are often guilty of “do as I say, but not as I do.”  In this passage we learn from the example of Paul who calls the church to walk worthy and provides us with a real life example what this looks like.  We see three important characteristics: sacrifice for God’s people, faithful to God’s message, and motivated by God’s glory.

What we Need for Walking Worthy
    Ephesians 1:15-23

In this passage, we discover what we need for walking worthy.  We often think that what we need is something new in addition to what we have, and this is usually how we pray.  But what we really need is simply to know the blessings that already belong to us in Christ.  We need to know what God will do for us, what God has done for us, and what God is doing for us so that we walk worthy.

    Walking Worthy
    Ephesians 1:1-2
In this introductory sermon to the series, we learn about the author, the audience, and the message of Ephesians.  We look at two key words we see in the introduction: grace and peace.  We discover these are important themes that run throughout the letter.  Since God has established peace between us and Himself and has shown grace to us in Christ, we should be quick to work for peace with others and extend grace to others who don’t deserve it.  We learn how these key concepts fit within the overall context of the letter to the Ephesians, and we learn what difference this makes for us today.
