Steve & Julie Lovisone

Welcome to our AWANA pages.  We are looking forward to a great year of missions, games, memorizing God's Word, and learning more about Him.  Our theme this year is "Speak Loud, Speak Now", based on Mark 16:15 and Matthew 5:15-16. These verses speak about our opportunity to preach the Gospel and be salt and light to the world.

We invite you to learn about our programs, which begin with Cubbies for 4 year olds, and continue through high school with 24/7. We meet on Wednesday nights from 6:15 – 8:00 pm during the school year. If you have additional questions, please contact us at Lovisoneawana@msn.com

Awana Update - March, 2010

This quarter we have been averaging 163 clubbers and 45 leaders.  In January, we hosted AWANA Bible Quizzing.  We had five teams (a total of 13 clubbers) participate.  These clubbers all spent extra time practicing and studying God's Word.  We also just finished with AWANA Games and Sparks-a-rama.  We took one Sparks team, one T&T boys team, and one T&T girls team.  It was a fun day of competing against other churches in the area.  On March 1, we will have our 3rd annual T&T Family Skate Night.  This is always a great night of skating and fellowship.  Last year we had over 90 in attendance.

Missions this year has been a great learning time for the clubbers.  This quarter we had Colin Robinson, Director of International Ministry Advancement from AWANA visit our club.  He had just returned from Africa and told the clubbers more about Adopt-a-club.  We support a club in Benin, Africa.  We have also had Mark and Lona Webb come talk to them about Ireland.  In March, Tally Paulich will talk to them about Croatia, Troy Tropp will tell them about building houses in Mexico, and Imogene Booker will tell them about Annie Armstrong.

About AWANA

Awana is an international, Bible-centered children's and youth ministry providing local churches with weekly clubs and programs for preschool through high school. Our goal is to reach children and teenagers, and their families, with the gospel of Christ and train them to serve Him. The acronym Awana comes from the first letters of Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed, taken from 2 Timothy 2:15.

Awana meets every Wednesday night during the school year from 6:15 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  Awana balances games with scripture memory and scripture related activities to provide an entertaining, yet instructive 90 minutes for children and youth.  At VGBC we have incorporated a Missions Education emphasis through Awana by participating in various mission projects throughout the year.  These mission projects are optional for every clubber and they do not change the Awana curriculum in any way.

At VGBC we have the following programs in place (click links for more detail about each club):

Girls and Boys age four (one year before entering Kindergarten)
Girls and Boys in Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grades
Girls and Boys 3rd - 6th grades
The complete program is now available for 7th - 12th grades.
