    Foundations of the Faith
    Series: Specials
On October 31, 1517, Martin Luther nailed 95 theses to the church door in Wittenberg, Germany and effectively began the Protestant Reformation. 499 years later, we still celebrate and experience the benefits of that Reformation which helped restore the church to the foundational teachings of the Bible. In this sermon, we talk about the most significant principles that were reintroduced by Luther and the other Reformers: Scripture Alone, Grace Alone, Faith Alone, Christ Alone, and God’s Glory Alone.

We simply need to cry out to him. Finally, we discover some of the results of salvation and ways in which Jesus is greater than Jonah.

    God is in Control
We learn from Jonah 1 that God is in control in all places. Just as Jonah cannot escape God, neither can we. This thought is both humbling and encouraging. We also learn He is in control of all things. Like Jonah, we often affirm this truth but we don’t live like it. The good news is that God is gracious and He sends someone greater than Jonah.

    Making Disciples who Serve
The message of the gospel is that we are not right with God but we can be because of what Christ has done at the cross. While the gospel is about being right with God, the gospel is also about the peace Jesus has established among God’s people. An important part of growing as a disciple of Christ is to grow together with God’s people. We discover from this text why we should value one another and why we should be connected with one another in the church.
