Knowing Jesus as Bread of Life
We learn from John 6 that we need to go to Jesus with the right motivations and stay there. We discover from the text a couple of unhealthy motivations for going to Jesus. Like the crowd, we often follow Jesus merely because of what He can do for us. We also learn healthy motivations for going to Jesus. Jesus doesn't merely give us what we need to be satisfied; He is the bread of life and He satisfies.

Knowing Jesusas the Son of God
In John 5 we see several examples from the people in the story of common myths and inaccurate views about God and how He works. We correct these myths and we are encouraged to think correctly about God, ourselves, and God’s Son. We address superstitions, healings, and man-made traditions.

    Knowing Jesus as Living Water
In this sermon we look at John 4 and the intriguing conversation between Jesus and the woman at the well. We learn the problem is that we have both a physical and spiritual thirst. We also learn that Jesus can satisfy our thirst. Perhaps most interestingly, we learn the reason why Jesus is able to satisfy is because He experienced both physical and spiritual thirst for us. When we come to understand and believe this, we begin to experience the satisfaction only Jesus can provide.

    Knowing Jesus as Redeemer
In this sermon we look at the stories from John 2 when Jesus turns water to wine and cleanses the temple. In both stories we have a problem and a solution. The problem is brokenness, and the solution is that Jesus has come to redeem. We discover how Jesus provides redemption and we are encouraged to know Him more deeply as our Redeemer.

Now we discover how we see each Christmas spirit in this text: humility, joy, peace, and love. Since God has given His Son, we are encouraged to practice each of these characteristics throughout the year.

    The Christmas Spirit – Joy
The Christmas spirit we see in this text is joy. We are commanded in scripture to rejoice always, and God’s desire is that we live a life full of joy. How can we live a life full of joy when we are so often consumed by busyness, stress, worry, doubts, loneliness, brokenness, and overwhelming burdens? We learn our joy is made complete in Jesus through fellowship with God and fellowship with other followers of Christ.

    The Christmas Spirit – Love
We learn that the true spirit of Christmas involves love. We see God’s love for us in the birth of His Son. We also see the proof of God’s love for us through His Son’s death. Just as God has loved us in a sacrificial way, so we should love one another. In fact, John says if we don’t love one another in this way we haven’t really experienced God’s love. We learn how and why we should practice this Christmas spirit of love.

    The Christmas Spirit: Humility
The Christmas spirit we see in this important text is humility. Even though He was equal with God, Jesus willingly humbled Himself. We explore what it means that He “emptied” Himself, and we discover the true wonder of Christmas. The main point of this text is that we practice this spirit of humility. We learn what true humility involves and how to get motivated to reflect the humility we see in the Christmas story.
