Knowing Jesus as The Good Shepherd
In John 10 we discover several reasons why Jesus is the good shepherd we should follow. First, He is the only one who has the authority to be our shepherd because of who He is. Second, He has a compassionate heart toward His sheep. His care for us causes us to want to follow Him. Third, He is a good shepherd because He is willing to sacrifice greatly for us. Finally, He provides the security for us that we want and need.

    Knowing Jesus as the Light
At the beginning of John 9, Jesus encounters a man who is blind from birth. By the end of the chapter, the blind man is able to see both physically and spiritually because he recognizes his blindness and need. The religious leaders, by contrast, don’t recognize their need, and they prove to be blind to the Light of the world. We learn from these two examples how we can experience Jesus as the Light.

    Knowing Jesus as the Christ
We learn from John 6 that we need to go to Jesus with the right motivations and stay there. We discover from the text a couple of unhealthy motivations for going to Jesus. Like the crowd, we often follow Jesus merely because of what He can do for us. We also learn healthy motivations for going to Jesus. Jesus doesn't merely give us what we need to be satisfied; He is the bread of life and He satisfies.

    Knowing Jesus as Living Water
In this sermon we look at John 4 and the intriguing conversation between Jesus and the woman at the well. We learn the problem is that we have both a physical and spiritual thirst. We also learn that Jesus can satisfy our thirst. Perhaps most interestingly, we learn the reason why Jesus is able to satisfy is because He experienced both physical and spiritual thirst for us. When we come to understand and believe this, we begin to experience the satisfaction only Jesus can provide.
